Pakistan Army' Operation Koh-e-Safaid 2 in FATA

Building a ray of hope in the darkness, The Pakistan Army has successfully completed its Tri Star operations in FATA including Operation Koh-e-Safaid 2 in its adjacent agencies and in Swat to flush out terrorists. Pakistan’s military has finally managed to dismantle militant bases in this critically important region, famous for its rebel movements and legendary tales of resistance.

The successful completion of an army operation against a band of militants in the region, Pakistan’s military chief, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani visit to Orakzai marked the end of the military operation in the region, and that people displaced due to the war could expect to return to their homeland soon. Army Chief Visit to Orakzai Agency marks the successful conclusion of operations in the agency. He appreciated the professional conduct of the operation which has cleared the agency of terrorists and encourages his soldiers.

Operation Koh-e-Sufaid had been launched to clear the area of militants whose fighting had increased the incidence of sectarian killings, kidnapping, and extortion in the agency. Pakistan army was also taken very peacefully into Khyber agency and “No-go areas” such as Kurram agency. Pakistan army gained control of Orakzai Agency. By the grace of Allah security forces have secured Malakand and Swat from all directions and very soon the dislocated people of these areas will be going back to their homes.

Pakistan Army has completed the offensive in the tribal region of South Waziristan. The successful military offensive earlier this year in the Swat Valley against militants led by a local radical cleric. There was strong public support for the offensive in South Waziristan.

The Pakistan Prime Minister paid rich tributes to Jawans and Officers of Pakistan Army and personnel of law enforcement agencies who embraced martyrdom for their country and nation in the operation.

Pakistan Army Development Role In Fata And Swat

The Pakistan Army through its presence has done an outstanding job in the rehabilitation in FATA and Swat divisions and organized number of activities and facilities to improve the quality of life of Swat and FATA Peoples. The Pakistan Army having opened the No Go Areas of FATA has undertaken and is continued with multifaceted developments works.

Pakistan army is fighting on different fronts as it is in war with the terrorist elements in FATA and Swat and at the same it has to look after the internally displaced people of the respective areas. Despite Pakistan’s hue and cry America has not stopped drone attacks. It is causing loss in terms of human lives and the infrastructure of the area. In Swat Pakistan army cleared the area from the terrorists in the record time of three months. Afterwards it had to resettle the IDPs by helping them in rehabilitation work etc. Pakistan army is still there as civil administration has failed to deliver.

The projects in FATA cover a wide canvas of works, including construction of over 400 KMs roads, dams, canals and hydroelectric works. The projects speak of the concern at the part of Pakistan army regarding the miseries and helplessness of the common masses because of the war against terror. Pakistan army has however to be appreciated that it has initiated many of the projects out of its reserved resources. International community has not given anything in terms of Coalition support fund since July 2010. It has to be valued however that army is doing all its best to restore the normalcy in the area affected by WOT.

All these projects are the proof that Pak Army making all efforts for the betterment of the people who were affected by the war against the terrorism.

In this regard, Pakistan Army became involved in training community police, around 2,700 in all of Swat, and 2,300 in lower Swat alone. With the help of foreign friend UAE, completion of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bridge within a package of giant infrastructure projects, indicated that the completion of this bridge will fulfill the needs of the people of area, this inauguration fulfills their hopes, which will contribute by spending a short period of time to reach other region by pushing the wheel of economic developments and improve the living standards across the Khyber Pukhtoon Kha.

Work on the roads was begun by the army’s Frontier Works Organization, which had earlier built the Karakoram Highway and other difficult roads in the frontier region. While this may be an effective way of linking South Waziristan with Pakistan proper, there still remain huge opportunities for the military to involve the youth of FATA in these projects. At 17 percent of the male population, the youth bulge of those between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five numbers some 300,000 in all of FATA. Roadways, small dams, and repair projects offer the fastest method of creating jobs.

Three million rupees worth of medical supplies was distributed, and an estimated 30,000 patients were treated in medical camps. The army also donated Rs. 1.5 million to the Saidu Sharif Hospital, and set up training centers in collaboration with other entities to prepare youth for employment. They also undertook the repair and rehabilitation of infrastructure in Swat and Malakand, restoring bridges and building roads. And in an effort to win back the youth, they opened a new school named Sabaon “Early Morning Breeze” in the Malakand division.

Uplifting education sector in the area, Pakistan Army has so far constructed government primary school in Patibast Banda, additional rooms had been constructed at Government Girls Primary School Tighak.  Renovation of GGPS Tangband has been done from Pakistan Army’s fund.  Pakistan Army constructed Kabal Girls College at expenditure of Rs 30 million and declared it a monument college in district Swats.

Pakistan Army is working on various development projects in different sectors in district Swat / FATA. Development projects were underway in tehsil Kabal, Devlai, Totanu Bandai, Shah Dherai and Kuza Bandai. Pakistan Army had so far worked on parks, gym, youth Centre, library, snooker club as an entertainment points in the areas. Pakistan Army would never leave the people of Swat and FATA in the lurch, as they rendered valuable sacrifices against militancy. Without their support, the army would not be successful in operation against insurgents.

Appreciating the constructive role of the people in the war on terrorism Pakistan Army is fully aware of the sacrifices rendered by the people of FATA / Swat. The respect and love, which the people of Swat / FATA had extended to Pakistan army, will not be forgotten. People of Swat and FATA had played a very positive role in the restoration of peace and proved to be the real spokesmen of the people of Swat.

Pakistan Army- Men At Their Best In Balochistan Development

As a geographical pivot of history, Pakistani geopolitical location has always been significant for the global players. Within Pakistan, the Province of Balochistan, has immense geo–strategic significance in the emerging international political and economic order. This God gifted province, has immense natural resources with traditionally proud and strapping manpower. However, its people mostly remained deprived of basic amenities of life. The current crises in Balochistan are centred on two things: first; continuous deprivation and extensive poverty of the Baloch masses compounded by the lack of economic and social development and second; lack of national unity and inter-provincial harmony, further fuelled by external powers through sub-nationalist elements.

On its part, Pak Army has made gigantic contributions in the development of the Province, which include development in all sectors viz; education, health, mining, provision of jobs in Army, infrastructural development and other socio-economic development. In the field of education, over 17000 Baloch students have been selected for education in various schools and colleges, run by Pak Army and Frontier Corps. Besides, Pak Army is also imparting education to over 6500 Baloch students in the schools and colleges of Federal Government administered by Pak Army.

In 2006, Pak Army took initiative to revive Chamalang Coal Mines project, which was disputed ever since 1980s. After its resolution under Pak Army, 73500 individuals of Luni and Marri tribes were provided job opportunities and 2000 individuals were employed as guards. The process was followed by excavation of over 2 million tons of coal. Following the consensus resolution of the Chamalang Coal Mines dispute under Pak Army, an education programme namely, the Chamalang Beneficiaries Education Programme (CBEP) was organized by the Southern Command of Pak Army. Under this educational project, 4183 x Balochi students are being sponsored for free education. The hotel facility through this programme has been established in Quetta Cantonment has housed over 100 students of Marri and Luni tribes of the Loralai and Kohlu Districts. The students are provided with free boarding, lodging and medical facilities along with monthly stipends.

The Gawadar Institute of Technology (GIT) is yet another project, indeed, a joint venture between Balochistan Government and Pak Army for imparting technical education to Balochi youth. Army Chief, General Kayani inaugurated the Project in April 2011. The major areas of the expertise under this project are; food preservation and processing and industrial electronics. Through yet another joint venture with the Balochistan Government, Pak Army has established Army Institute of Mineralogy in May 2011. The project aims at imparting basic knowledge and mining skills among the Baloch youth for exploiting the local resources and providing job opportunities too. Gradually, the level of education is being enhanced to graduation in the mining.

In August 2011, General kayani inaugurated, Quetta Institute of Medical Sciences (QIMS). This non-profitable institute aims at imparting quality medical education facilities to the youth of Baluchistan.  For the promotion of vocational training in Fishery and Nautical Sciences, Headquarters Southern Command of Pak Army established Balochistan Institute of Marine Sciences (BIMS).  This project of technical education aims at opening the avenues for job opportunities for the youth of the Province.   Since 2007, over 1000 youth of the province have been given technical training through Baluchistan Institute of Technical Education (BITE) by Pak Army. Free boarding, lodging and messing are being provided beside scholarship.  Students are being provided free of cost tool kits / sewing machines, on completion of the course.

In connection with the induction in Pak Army, over 12000 Baloch recruits have been enrolled and trained as combat soldiers in various branches of Army in last 3-5 years. A sizeable number of educated Baloch youth are being inducted in Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) to become officer in Pak Army. In Dera Bugti area, Pak Army and FC have launched many Developmental Projects. These includes: provision of job opportunities to over 1500 individuals, financial assistance to over 1500 families, renovation and establishment of 31 health centres. Besides, 458 animal units were provided to needy families and free of cost education of over 150 local students in Baluchistan Public School Sui (BPSS), established on the lines of MCJ. The Sui Town has been provided with the free natural gas. In the health Sector, free medical camps for 2-3 days are being established in remote areas where free medical examination and medicines are distributed on regular basis. Free medical treatment is also provided to approximately 500 to 1000 patients of Mekhter and Chamalang per month. Pak Army is also monitoring many developmental projects for their smooth and free functioning.

General Kayani has already proposed a political solution of the Balochistan unrest. He does not believe in the use of military for resolving the Baloch problems. In May 2012, General Ashfaq Kayani assured the participants of the meeting on Balochistan, held under Prime Minister that, “no army personnel or official of Frontier Constabulary would be involved in any kind of operation in Balochistan.” Indeed, a cautious approach deems essential to handle the ongoing provincial situation. For a comprehensive and long lasting solution of the Baloch crisis, Federal Government and all main stream political parties must undertake political dialogue with all stake holders to dispel the impression that the Federal Government has adopted the policy of oppression and denial to the rights to the people of Balochistan. There is a need for continuity and speedy completion of mega development projects on the lines of Pak Army.

History reveals that, the people of Balochistan have a splendid history of self-respect and maintaining their veracity. They have the honour to fight with the “Alexander the Great” without accepting a defeat. Today they have the will to trounce the conspiracies being hatched from across the borders to disintegrate them.  The socio-economic developmental model adopted by Pak Army for improving the living standards of Baloch people is worth appreciating. If Provincial Government and ministries of Federal Government follow the model, Balochistan can be brought at par with rest of the provinces of Pakistan in just 3-4 years.

Foreign Hands Behind Unrest In Balochistan

The security and law and order situation in country’s largest province, Balochistan, is worsening since the hostile agencies have stepped up propaganda campaign against the nuclear armed State by relentlessly propagating issues like missing persons, extrajudicial killings, mutilated bodies and target killings. Anti-Pakistan elements having spotted internal vulnerabilities have also launched hostile campaigns to show the image of Pak Army and country in bad light. Indo-US allegiance with clear signs of intrusiveness is making desperate efforts to prompt certain political and social groups to exploit the prevailing situation in the country, particularly in the mineral-rich province Balochistan.

It is worth-mentioning that the agents of CIA, RAW and Mosssad are well-penetrated in the foreign and Pakistani media, various NGOs and human rights organizations which are being used for vile propaganda against Pak Army and country’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)—and now especially against FC in relation to human rights violations and the disappeared persons. In fact, US thinks that holding, capturing or creating independent state in Balochistan Region just as US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher did by tabling the bill in the US House of Representatives calling upon Pakistan to recognise the Baloch right to self determination will provide her remunerative strategically advantages like easy excess to Gulf through Gawdar Port, disintegration of lonely nuclear Islamic state, dominance over China, Russia, Persian Gulf and other Islamic countries. The Pakistan Foreign Office has strongly condemned the resolution terming it as “highly irresponsible and a blatant interference in the domestic issues of the country,” adding that it is a violation of international laws.

In this respect, BLA and another group, Jundollah (God’s soldiers) which have been fighting for secession of the province get logistic support from American CIA, Indian RAW and Israeli Mossad. Their militants kidnapped and killed many innocent people. Many persons in Balochistan have also been killed in bomb blasts, suicide attacks, ethnic and sectarian violence. On a number of occasions, BLA, Jundollah and other separatist groups claimed responsibility for these criminal activities. These foreign-backed insurgent groups including other separatist elements are responsible for target killings of Punjabis, Pushtuns, people of Hazara community, and patriot Balochis. It would not be wrong in saying that CIA has decided to gear up her project of establishing “Greater Balochistan” which was actually designed in “Bush era”.

Besides, disappeared individuals are also in the detention centres (Farrari Camps) which are being run by Baloch feudal lords (Sardars). Due to difficult heavy terrain, it is not easy for the FC to detect these people. With the assistance of US-led India and Israel, these Sardars are fighting for their so-called prestige, status and influence, and want to continue old system of feudalism in the province.

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) was told that Balochistan's law and order situation was worsening and there was strong evidence of foreign elements' involvement in it. The committee made CIA and its sisters agencies (RAW & Mossad) responsible for interfering for abduction and killings in Balochistan. The PCNS was also told that separatists in Balochistan with foreign backing aim to destabilize Pakistan. Certain politicians were supporting separatists for political benefits. “The chiefs of Bugti, Marri and Mengal (tribes) are involved in the prevailing condition of Balochistan. The Balochistan Liberation Army is a terrorist organization which is targeting non-locals in the province. Shahzain Bugti, Talal Bugti and others have contacts with foreign elements.

Recently, Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf has said that the turbulence in Balochistan, though foreign abetted, is an internal issue for the state and people of Pakistan to resolve. The Prime Minister said all our friends interested to bring about peace in this region are expected to respect the sovereignty of Pakistan and the aspirations of more than 95% people of Balochistan, who are as patriotic Pakistanis as in any other part of the country. The state and people of Pakistan are capable to solve their problems and they would assert their sovereign right and independence in dealing with their domestic problems. He further said that under the garb of sectarian cover, non-state actors and foreign-sponsored groups are fueling the fire that warrants vigilance at various tiers both at the governmental as well as at the societal levels.

So, it is our misfortune that instead of stating real facts, our own media, so-called NGOs, human rights groups and some political elements spread disinformation about the missing persons of Balochistan, accusing country’s key security institutions by further strengthening the hands of the US, India and Israel which want to ‘destabilize’, ‘denuclearize’ and disintegrate Pakistan. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said that there is no military operation being carried out in Balochistan and not a single soldier is involved in any operation in the province. Not a single inch of the country would disintegrate in the presence of Pakistan Army.
